Product Introduction
Quick Summary: Landiview Stone produces project-specific Green Onyx tiles from 16 mm polished slabs sourced from Afghanistan. The documented workflow converts architectural drawings or a design concept into approved stone shop drawings, submits current slabs for approval, simulates cutting and vein relationships in AutoCAD, fabricates and dry lays the tiles, replaces nonconforming pieces when required, applies a water-based stone sealer, and packs accepted pieces with customized cushioning, plywood support and solid-wood export crates wrapped with waterproof film.

Executive Summary

Green Onyx tiles are visually driven project materials. Reliable procurement depends on approving the actual slab, converting the design into stone-specific shop drawings, and reviewing the proposed cutting and vein layout before fabrication.

This project used polished 16 mm Green Onyx slabs from Afghanistan to create custom wall tiles around a window opening. Because natural onyx has variable color, banding, translucency and fissure patterns, tile dimensions alone do not define the finished composition. Landiview Stone therefore coordinates drawing approval, actual-slab review, AutoCAD layout approval and factory dry layout as separate control stages.

The final tile suitability, attachment method, substrate, joint design and installation procedure must follow the project specification, applicable local requirements and the recommendations of qualified stone installers, design professionals and product manufacturers.

How Are Custom Green Onyx Tiles Produced?

The production sequence uses four buyer approvals before shipment: shop drawings, actual slabs, AutoCAD cutting and vein layout, and the finished dry layout. Each approval answers a different technical or visual question.

1. Review the client's architectural drawing or design reference and identify the Green Onyx scope, dimensions, openings, visible faces, joints and installation interfaces.

2. Prepare stone-specific Green Onyx tile shop drawings for client and design-team review. Approved shop drawings become the fabrication reference, but do not replace the responsibilities of locally licensed structural, architectural or installation professionals.

3. After drawing approval, submit photos or videos of currently available Afghan Green Onyx slabs, including slab identification and the visible range of color, banding, veining, translucency, resin treatment or natural features where applicable.

4. After the slab and shop drawings are approved, use the actual slab image in AutoCAD to simulate piece locations, cutting yield, vein direction and relationships between adjoining tiles. Autodesk documents that raster images can be incorporated into the AutoCAD drawing environment, supporting image-based drafting workflows [1].

5. Following approval of the virtual layout, cut and finish the tiles in the factory. Assemble the finished pieces in a dry layout to inspect dimensions, edge condition, surface appearance, adjacent relationships and the overall composition.

6. Identify pieces that do not meet the agreed requirements. Where replacement is necessary, select a new cutting location that considers not only size, but also color, vein direction and continuity with neighboring tiles.

7. Apply a compatible water-based stone sealer to accepted tiles in accordance with the product manufacturer's preparation, coverage, curing and safety instructions. Sealing does not make natural stone stain-proof or maintenance-free.

8. Complete final inspection and piece identification, then use customized foam and plywood for cushioning, separation and edge support. Place the protected products in solid-wood export crates and wrap the exterior with waterproof film.

Why Are AutoCAD Layout and Factory Dry Layout Both Required?

AutoCAD layout is a pre-cutting planning and approval tool. It helps the buyer understand where each tile is expected to come from on the approved slab and how adjacent veins or color zones are intended to relate. Factory dry layout is a post-fabrication verification step using the actual finished pieces.

Control Stage Primary Question What It Can Reveal Limitation
AutoCAD slab layout Where should each piece be cut? Planned yield, orientation, vein direction, color placement and adjoining relationships It represents the planned result before physical fabrication
Factory dry layout Do the fabricated pieces meet the approved intent and agreed quality requirements? Chips, processing damage, unstable or open fissures, unacceptable visual differences, orientation errors and replacement needs Site lighting, joint color, substrate, installation tolerances and viewing distance can still affect the installed appearance

Digital layout reduces information gaps before cutting; dry layout verifies the physical result after cutting. Neither step removes the natural variation of onyx or the influence of site installation.

How Are Natural Features and Fabrication Defects Assessed?

Green Onyx commonly displays natural banding, color transitions, veins and fissure-like features. These characteristics should not automatically be described as defects. Quality review should distinguish among stable natural features, open or unstable fissures that may affect use, structural cracks, and damage introduced during cutting, edge finishing, handling or packing.

  • • Natural color and vein variation are evaluated against the approved slab and agreed appearance range.
  • • Open or unstable features are assessed according to location, tile geometry, intended use and project requirements.
  • • Chips, broken corners, scratches or processing damage are reviewed as fabrication or handling conditions.
  • • Replacement pieces are selected for dimensional compliance and visual coordination with adjacent pieces.
  • • Final acceptance criteria should be agreed before fabrication whenever the project has unusually tight visual requirements.

What Buyers Should Specify Before Ordering

A technically complete inquiry supports a more accurate quotation and reduces late-stage assumptions. Buyers should provide:

  • • Architectural drawings, design concept images, field dimensions and installation location;
  • • Required dimensions, nominal thickness, finish, visible-face rules, edge details, openings and joint preferences;
  • • Desired color range, translucency, vein direction, matching intent and slab-approval method;
  • • Substrate, attachment or setting concept, joint material, lighting conditions and responsible design parties;
  • • Inspection, mockup, dry-layout photography, piece-numbering and documentation requirements;
  • • Destination, shipping mode, unloading constraints, crate-opening method and applicable wood-packaging rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you provide Green Onyx samples?

A: Yes. Normally one or two samples can be provided without a sample charge. Typical sizes range from 100 × 100 mm to 200 × 200 mm, and courier cost is paid by the customer. Availability depends on the current material. A small sample is useful for reviewing finish and general color, but cannot represent the full movement of a large slab.

Q: Can I see current slab photos and videos before ordering?

A: Yes. Subject to current slab availability, Landiview Stone can provide slab photos, videos, slab numbers, visible-surface inspection information and confirmation of the available color and vein range. Buyers should approve the identified slabs rather than relying only on generic catalogue images.

Q: Can Landiview Stone prepare stone shop drawings from architectural drawings or design concept images?

A: Yes. Landiview Stone can translate relevant architectural information or a design concept into stone-specific shop drawings showing fabrication details for client and design-team approval. These drawings do not replace the structural, code, substrate, attachment or installation responsibilities of locally licensed professionals. See What is cut-to-size stone?

Q: How do you help control the final vein layout and installed appearance?

A: Landiview Stone uses the approved slab image in AutoCAD to plan cutting positions and vein relationships, submits the virtual layout for approval, fabricates against the approved documents, and dry lays the finished pieces for inspection and numbering. This process reduces communication gaps, but natural variation, image capture, site lighting, joints and installation can affect the final appearance. See Natural stone slab layout in AutoCAD.

Q: Where does this Green Onyx come from?

A: The Green Onyx specified for this product is sourced from Afghanistan. Because commercial stone names can be used inconsistently, buyers should confirm the selected lot, slab identification and available origin documentation for the actual order.

Q: Why is a water-based sealer applied?

A: A compatible water-based stone sealer is applied as protective treatment after accepted pieces pass inspection. The correct product, test area, number of coats, curing time and reapplication interval depend on the stone, finish, installation environment and sealer manufacturer's instructions. Sealing reduces absorption risk but does not make the tiles stain-proof.

Q: How should installed Green Onyx tiles be maintained?

A: Use a pH-neutral cleaner formulated for natural stone, remove spills promptly, rinse as appropriate and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid unverified acidic or alkaline cleaners and abrasive tools. The Natural Stone Institute classifies onyx with calcareous stones and recommends mild, non-acidic cleaning; it also advises following cleaner-manufacturer instructions [3]. Sealer selection and reapplication intervals depend on the onyx, finish, exposure, use and manufacturer's guidance. Follow the project maintenance plan and advice from the installer and product manufacturers.

Q: Is Green Onyx suitable for every tile application?

A: No universal recommendation should be made from the material name alone. Suitability depends on interior or exterior exposure, floor or wall use, traffic, moisture, substrate, attachment method, tile geometry, joint design, maintenance expectations and applicable codes. The project team should approve the actual stone and installation system for the intended location.
